Neutral review requests
Invite eligible former clients to leave an honest review using the same neutral rule for every eligible client. Do not filter invitations by satisfaction, offer incentives, or discourage criticism. Confirm that a request is appropriate for the matter and jurisdiction, and keep both the invitation and any public response free of confidential details.
1. Define the starting point
A private satisfaction survey must not decide who receives a public review invitation. Use eligibility criteria such as permitted contact, a completed matter, and no prior request—not whether the client seems happy.
2. Walk through the process
1. Define neutral eligibility
Document the firm-approved eligibility rule. Apply it consistently without using sentiment, ratings, or a predicted review score.
2. Check communication permission
Confirm the recipient, permitted channel, completion date, and any matter-specific restriction before queuing a request.
3. Send an honest invitation
Ask for an optional, honest account of the experience. Provide the same review link to every eligible recipient and offer no reward.
4. Suppress duplicates
Keep a request timestamp and stop on opt-out. Do not chase a client repeatedly or require proof that a review was posted.
5. Review public responses
A responsible person checks any proposed response. Never confirm representation or disclose facts simply because a reviewer did so first.
3. Check the information
Use invented references in this worksheet. Keep real documents and personal records in an appropriate private system.
| Reference field | Working record | Check |
|---|---|---|
| matter_closed_at | eligibility_date | Use an approved delay |
| contact_permission | send_allowed | Honor opt-outs |
| last_review_request | dedupe_reference | Avoid repeated invitations |
| neutral_eligibility | policy_version | No sentiment gate |
| public_response | staff_draft | Confidentiality review required |
4. Verify the process
Use synthetic examples. Mark a check only after recording what actually happened.
5. Decide the next step
Retain qualified professional review for legal, accounting, tax, medical, financial, or other consequential decisions. This workbook does not certify compliance or guarantee results.
